Lids hard to fasten tightly, and jar EXPLODEDNov 21, 2012
By N. Cousino
When I bought these, what I was looking for was the older version I had purchased a few years ago that have a screw-on lid. I could not find that type, so I purchased these which have a lid you have to push down hard to get a good seal all the way around. I find it almost impossible to get the lids on securely with these - I have to apply a lot of pressure and keep pulling the lid off and trying again, pulling around the edges.
I use these mainly for food storage in the freezer. After emptying the last ones and washing them I noticed a bit of residual food smell in the container, so I dumped a bit of baking soda in the container to absorb the smell. My intention was to put the lid on and let it sit for a while before washing it again. While struggling to get the lid pushed down and fastened onto the container, the container literally EXPLODED all over my kitchen with a loud bang, shards of plastic and baking soda flying everywhere. I'm just thankful my 4 year old wasn't anywhere around when this happened - there were small sharp pieces of plastic all over the place. I'm not a really strong person, so it's not like I was able to apply tons of pressure to the top of the container. I don't know if this was just a fluke, or a weakened container, I know anything is possible, but I'm still a bit upset that it happened at all.
I know Ball generally makes good products and I'm happy with their other products that I've purchased, but I will never buy these again, and they should stop making them if they're that difficult to use and shatter that easily.

Not my favoriteMar 07, 2013

The lids didn't fit well and allowed big messes in the lunch box. I like the size and was looking for something the little kids could open and close easily.

bought these to make pre-made oatmeal to grab and go in the mornings. at first I thought they were too small but they are the perfect serving size.
Just wish I knew if they were microwave safe!

I bought these for a friend that makes natural jam. She has had a hard time finding them in the store. They work great in the freezer.

Works great to freeze and send smoothies in my daughter's lunch. Tight seal; did not leak. Just the right size.
